Whether it’s your first job, your third, an important meeting, an important date, or your regular day at school/college/work, you want to walk wearing an impressive personality on your sleeves. The term “personality” has gotten overused in our language. It is that tangible-yet-undefined characteristic that businesses seek in job seekers and individuals seek in prospective mates. But what exactly is personality? Is it possible to define it?

The word personality comes from the Latin word persona which refers to a theatrical mask worn by performers for different roles. But today, it means much more than that.

A person’s personality is the sum of their attitudes, views, preferences, and other distinctive behavioral qualities that are inherent in themselves. It separates you from others and influences your choices, actions, and behavior. Furthermore, it influences the kind of connections one forms, as well as social and political decisions and psychological preferences. Understanding your persona is a critical step in the process of developing your personality

Personality development is described as the process of improving and grooming one’s outer and inner self in order to make a positive difference in one’s life. Yes, one might think that after a certain age, personality traits cannot be changed, but this is just a myth. A research study by psychologists at the University of Illinois suggests that one can change one’s personality traits provided he/she wants to change them.

You can become the best version of yourself if you want to. A version that

reverberates confidence, enthusiasm, and serenity. The kind that makes you stand out and help you get what you want in life. Each identity is malleable and may be honed and polished.. This includes strengthening one’s faith, improving one’s speech and language speaking ability, broadening one’s experience, cultivating specific interests or talents, learning fine etiquettes and courtesy, bringing elegance to the way one dresses, speaks, and walks, and ultimately imbibing oneself with positivity, charishma, liveliness, and harmony.

“Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. It will not only improve your life, it will improve the lives of all those around you.” ―Robin Sharma

In today’s fast paced life, one often neglects his/her personal instincts so as to fit in the ‘desired’ role/environment. Over a period of

time this causes one to completely forget who he/she actually is, and to enhance oneself one must meet with the real self. So take some ‘me days’ out of your busy schedule and just catch up with the buddy inside you!

Feeling comfortable in your own flesh is the first step in developing a wonderful personality. One of the most important ways to accomplish this is to avoid comparing yourself to others. The incessant comparison obscures our own talents. In our minds, the other person has more power. But, fortunately, and frequently unacknowledged, you are unique and exceptional.

Plan your time management approach and build on it every day. Start your days off correctly. Take some time every morning to read something encouraging.

Make a plan for what you’re going to do that day. Keep your overall aim in mind and choose activities accordingly. From time to time, put yourself to the test.

Discover something new. Be inventive. Do something you’re enthusiastic about. Take chances. Do not be afraid of failure.

Define what you want to excel in and develop

relevant skill sets. Maximize your time, energy, and resources to achieve the desired result.

Self evaluation is the key to keep you on the right track towards your goal. It helps in avoiding

procrastination and also keeps laziness at bay. Evaluating yourself with a positive mindset also adds on to the enthusiasm to keep going.

Learn to be optimistic about the future. Being positive will assist you in identifying and pursuing possibilities. Failures are seen as just setbacks by optimistic individuals. Even in the face of obstacles and setbacks, optimistic people try to find a solution.

Remain open to new challenges and opportunities which have the power to steer your life into a great direction. Challenges are not something to be afraid of, instead they are a great way to network and build a great skillset of time management, persistence and patience .

The key to a journey of constant growth is to enjoy the process, the journey instead of focussing and stressing over the consequences. It keeps the mind clear and a clear mind is what makes the difference. Taking it one step, one task at a time helps in focussing completely on that one task which you unknowingly start enjoying by and by.

You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself one.” ―Henry David Thoreau
